My Fiancé Just Surprised Me… With $90,000 Of Debt.

When we got engaged, we both said we wanted to keep it simple.

Something small. Not too expensive. Nothing stressful. Just our family and closest friends.

That lasted about two weeks.

Now we’re planning this full-blown event with a $20K venue, a string quartet, full bar, plated dinner, custom signage, and a floral budget that honestly makes me nauseous.

Every time I try to scale it back, he brushes me off.

“It’s once in a lifetime.”
“We can’t cheap out now.”
“We’ll make it work.”

Last week I was using his laptop for work and while I was on there, an email popped up. It was a payment reminder from one of his credit cards.

It was just a preview but it mentioned “payment overdue.”

So I asked him about it.

That’s when he told me he’s nearly $90,000 in debt.

Four credit cards. Personal loans. Bad investments.
Some of it from trying to “keep up appearances” with his friends. His words, not mine.

Stuff he never once mentioned while we’re planning to spend the rest of our lives together.

He said he didn’t tell me because he “didn’t want to stress me out.”
Then tried to play it off like everyone’s in debt these days and it’s not a big deal.

But this isn’t student loans. This is him spending money he doesn’t have, pretending like it’ll magically fix itself, and dragging me along for the ride.

And I’m supposed to go all-in on a $70K wedding with a man who won’t even sit down and talk about what happens after the party???

I’m really not sure what to do…

He still wants a honeymoon.
He still refuses to cut anything.
He still says we’ll “figure it out.”

So now I’m sitting here with a wedding I can’t afford, a fiancé who’s acting like none of this matters, and a sinking feeling that this is just the beginning.

Do we just say screw it and elope?

Or do I walk away before I end up married to someone who thinks denial is a financial plan?
