My brother proposed during our first dance.

The wedding actually started off really well. Ceremony went smoothly. Everyone seemed happy. Surprisingly... no hiccups.

For our reception entrance, my husband and I had planned something a little different. We went straight into our first dance as soon as we did our entrance. It was something we had rehearsed. We’d taken lessons and everything, and we were both genuinely excited about it. The whole idea was that this would be our moment, right at the start of the night, setting the tone for the celebration.

We enter. The song starts. We're dancing. I remember thinking it felt kind of surreal. Like, oh, we actually pulled this off. It was one of the only moments of the day where I felt fully present.

Then, out of the corner of my eye, I see my brother step onto the dance floor.

At first I thought he was helping with something, but then he turned and faced toward his girlfriend at the table. He starts speaking. But he doesn’t have a microphone or anything. Just loudly talking over the music.  All eyes were on him.

My husband and I are still kind of half-dancing while he's just standing there yelling.

He starts waving his girlfriend over. She looks really confused but gets up and walks toward him anyway. At this point everyone in the room is watching them instead of us.

Then, right there, in the middle of the floor, he gets down on one knee.

There are a lot of gasps and a few awkward claps. The music is still playing. He's still awkwardly talking over it.

And my new husband and I are just standing there. Jaws completely dropped.

And then the DJ cuts the music right as he asks her to marry him.

Yikes. There’s no coming back from that honestly.
